By now, we've compared and contrasted HBCUs with PWIs.  And, while many of you argue that HBCUs are a better academic and social environment - they are not without their problems.  Please identify one major problem you feel is common on an HBCU campus.  Why do you believe that is the case, and how do you propose to solve it?

Due: Fri., 11/2/18 by the beginning of class.

After these last two readings, we now have some insight into comfort, discomfort, race, and public spaces with these narrative writings.  While both are from two different perspectives, both offer and inform in a variety of ways.  Please identify differences and similarities in the two, and find a way to identify with one of these authors.  Share your comments below, and don't forget to use the blog rubric on your syllabus.

Due at the end of class on Friday, 9/7/18.

Welcome to Ideas and Expressions I - Dr. J's Spot

Hello all!

Welcome to our class blog!  What is blogging?

It's a place to share, express, constructively criticize, and more importantly - to connect!

Here, I will post various topics, thoughts, and current events which will get us writing.  You will respond to me, one another, and we all learn from each other, i.e. sharing.  I will post stuff that just grabs my attention on a weekly basis beginning August 27th.  Each week, I'll provide you with class time to blog (isn't that nice of me?), but I'll also expect you to blog outside of class too.
